Kijiji alerts not working? How to fix them in 2026

Kijiji search alerts that never arrive, arrive a day late or stop altogether often come down to how the alert was set up, your email, or your phone's settings. Work through the checks below — and if you want every new ad while it is still available, the last section shows how.

Check these first

  1. The alert is actually set. On the Kijiji website, run your search and click Notify me when new ads are posted. In the Kijiji app, run your search and tap the ribbon (alert) icon at the top of the results.
  2. You know how often it sends. Alerts set on the website arrive once per day by email; in the app you choose Daily or Weekly. A “missing” alert may simply not be due yet.
  3. Email alerts are reaching you. Check spam and promotions folders, and that the email address on your Kijiji account is current.
  4. Kijiji's notifications are on. Alerts set in the app arrive as push notifications — check that notifications are on in the Kijiji app's settings and in your phone's settings.

Fix it on iPhone

  1. Open Settings → Notifications → Kijiji and turn on Allow Notifications. Under Alerts, turn on Lock Screen, Notification Center and Banners.
  2. Open Settings → Focus and choose each Focus you use (Do Not Disturb, Sleep, Work). Under Apps, allow notifications from Kijiji — or make sure the Focus is off while you are hunting.
  3. Turn off Low Power Mode in Settings → Battery (under Power Mode on newer iPhones) while you wait for a deal: it turns off Background App Refresh.
  4. Open Settings → General → Background App Refresh, make sure it is on, and that Kijiji is switched on in the list.
  5. Still nothing? Delete the Kijiji app, reinstall it, sign in, and allow notifications when your iPhone asks.

Menu names can differ slightly between iOS versions.

Fix it on Android

  1. Open Settings → Notifications → App notifications → Kijiji and make sure notifications are on — including every category Kijiji lists, if it lists its notifications in categories.
  2. Open Settings → Apps → App battery usage → Kijiji and choose Unrestricted, so Kijiji can run more freely in the background.
  3. Open Settings → Modes → Do Not Disturb (just Do Not Disturb on older versions) and allow Kijiji among the apps that may notify you.
  4. If Data Saver is on, apps get background data only over Wi-Fi — turn it off, or let Kijiji use data without restriction.
  5. Update Kijiji from Google Play, or clear its cache in Settings → Apps → Kijiji → Storage & cache.

These are the names on Google Pixel phones; other phone makers use similar names, and your phone's settings search finds each one quickly.

Check your search itself

  1. The location is right — especially after you move or travel.
  2. The keywords are not too narrow. Use the words a seller would write: “couch” as well as “sofa”, “bike” as well as “bicycle”.
  3. The price range and filters still match what you are looking for.
  4. Try it by hand. Run the same search yourself. If new ads show up but no alert came, the search is fine and the alert is the problem.

Why Kijiji's alerts can still feel late

Kijiji's own search alerts are built as a digest: alerts set on the website are sent once per day, and alerts set in the app are sent daily or weekly, whichever you choose. On a busy marketplace, a good ad can be spoken for long before the next digest arrives.
